Mahila & Shishu Help Desks have been set up to put a robust mechanism in police stations and provide the victims with an environment free from fear, apprehension, or shame. The desk teams are being strengthened continuously by way of physical infrastructure and behavioural capacities for responding to the victims and supporting them.

Key Objectives:

  • To make the Police Stations more women and child-friendly and approachable.
  • To make the Mahila & Shishu Desk first and single point of contact for any woman or child walking into a police station.
  • To continuously sensitise and strengthen officials of Mahila & Shishu Desk for managing any type of women-related cases being registered in the police station.
  • To enlist panel of experts like lawyers, psychologists, NGO volunteers who can provide services for the victims’ rehabilitation and connect them to the desk teams.
  • To follow-up on the case of the victim giving required assurance and support during investigation and prosecution.


Composition: Mahila & Shishu Desks have been established in all police stations of the State.

Partners: The Mahila & Shishu Help Desks work closely with various departments, agencies and bodies both government and non-government. Some of our partners include Women and Child Development Department, Health Department, School and Mass Education Department, District Legal Services Authority, NGOs including Childline.
