Crime Against Women & Children Wing (CAW&CW) has been established as a separate wing under Criminal Investigation Department, Crime Branch, Odisha, with an objective to ensure the rights, safety, dignity and empowerment of women and children in the State. The Wing has been mandated to monitor heinous cases of crime against women & children including trafficking, sexual offences, domestic violence, acid attack, child labour, witch hunting etc and take up investigation of sensitive and sensational cases.

In pursuance of Government of Odisha, Home Department notification No PT2- HOME- DA I-CRTN1-0013-2020 41331 / D&A,  dated 23.11.2021 Bhubaneswar, the State Government declared the office of the Additional Superintendent of Police, Crime against Women & Children Wing, CID-CB, Odisha, Bhubaneswar as a Police Station to be known as ‘Crime Against Women & Children Wing Police Station’. The Police Station included within its jurisdiction, the entire area of the State of Odisha for the purpose of registration, investigation and prosecution of offences against women and children. Role and functions of CID, CB in so far as cases of crime against women & children were concerned, have been transferred to CAW&CW. Accordingly, Special Reports in cases of offences against women & children are being monitored by CAW&CW, Bhubaneswar.

History

The office of ADGP, CAW&CW started functioning initially from the office of the CID, CB Cuttack till 26.01.2022 and subsequently shifted to the SFSL Campus, Rasulgarh, Bhubaneswar on 27.01.2022 from where it became fully operational. Separate specialized Wings including Women Section, Dowry Cell, Children Section, Missing Persons Section, IAHTU, Investigation & Prosecution Sections have been created to give exclusive attention to subject specific issues.
