Marriage of a person, if a male who has not completed 21 years of age, and if a female who has not completed 18 years of age is illegal and punishable. Laws for Child Marriage: Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 envisages punishments of rigorous imprisonment for two years and/or fine of Rs.1 lakh. This Act also declares that any marriage solemnized between children below the legal age limit is null and void.
